In a related news, a training aimed at building the capacity of health care providers on the provision of youth friendly reproductive health services was held in Dessie town from April 19-24/2015. A similar training was also held in Raya Kobo and Woldiya towns from April 21-26, 2015.
A total of 44 health care professionals drawn from new health facilities in South and North Wollo Zones have attended the training, which was jointly organized by EPHA and the respective zonal health departments.
Topics covered during the course of the training include, among others, natures of adolescent/youth and their sexual and reproductive health; adolescent and youth vulnerabilities, risk-taking behaviors and their consequences; sexual abuse, harmful traditional practices and substance abuse in adolescents; and contraceptive options for adolescents.
Trainees from Dessie site were grouped in to two teams and conducted field visits to Kutaber and Dessie health centers and family guidance youth center in Dessie town. Likewise, trainees from North Wollo Zone made a visit to Gubiye health center, about 30 km. from Raya Kobo.
The purpose of the field visits was to create an opportunity for trainees to share best experiences and good practices of health facilities with excellent performance in the provision of adolescent and youth friendly health services.
