EPHA Annual Conference Officially Opens

The 27th annual conference of EPHA kicked off yesterday, February 22, 2016, with the theme of ‘’Attaining Universal Health Service Coverage and Sustainable Development Goals Related to Health: Opportunities and Challenges.”

The conference was officially opened by the message from H.E. Dr. Kesetebirhan Admassu, Minister of Health of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The Minister, through his representative - Dr. Mahlet Kifle, highlighted the contributions of EPHA, particularly in training of health workers, strengthening of the health extension program and the development of the recently launched Health Sector Transformation Plan (HSTP).


Professor Afework Kassu, State Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of FDRE on his part affirmed the government’s commitment to supporting EPHA and other national institutions that are engaged in conducting scientific research.

 

Dr. Fikreab Kebede, President of EPHA, welcomed all members and partners to this important meeting and thanked those who contributed to the success of the annual conference. On his remark, he indicated that over 300 scientific oral and poster presentations will be presented during the conference. These presentations are believed to contribute to the development of science and technology and building up the evidence base in public health and medicine.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

During the event, a minute of silence was further held for the untimely deaths of Dr. Haiu Yeneneh, ex-Secretary of the General Assembly, Dr. Yohannes Kebede and Ato Dereje Seyoum, EPHA secretariat and member.

The conference brought together more than 700 advocates, researchers, health professionals and other stakeholders from all over the country and abroad. The deliberation will continue for three days at the United Nations Conference Center.
