To protect the public against alcohol and substance abuse, there should be comprehensive national policies, guidelines and specific regulations regarding alcohol consumption and the use of psychotropic drugs and stimulants (15 January 2011, Debre zeyit)

Speaking on Saturday at alcohol and substance abuse advocacy strategy design workshop, EPHA Executive Director Ato Hailegnaw Eshete said the Association is one of the most prominent associations of professionals in Ethiopia. At present time, with a membership of 3500-4000 professionals, it is second only to the Economist Association, adding it is over 20 years old.

Legislators and law enforcement bodies are called up on to give attention to mitigate the social, economic and public health problems affecting the society as a result of the consumption of alcohol, tobacco and substance abuse (30 October 2011, Addis Ababa)

First Meeting of AFPHA Convened

Addis Ababa, April 23: The first meeting and general assembly of the African Federation of Public Health Association (AFPHA) was convened Sunday, April 22nd, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In her special address to participants, Bience Philomina Gawanas, Commissioner of Social Affairs at the African Union, stressed the importance of ensuring food security, nutrition, hygiene and environmental health, as well as addressing communicable and non-communicable diseases in the context of African public health challenges.
