Abstract


Introduction: In Sub-Saharan Africa, including Ethiopia continued high fertility levels, along with declining mortality rates, have resulted in a wide gap between birth and death rates, and subsequently in high annual population growth rate. Ethiopia is the second most populous nation in Africa. Amhara has an annual population growth rate of 2.9% and a total fertility rate of 5.4 lifetime births per woman. This study was aimed to assess utilization of long acting & permanent contraceptive methods & associated factors among women of reproductive age15-49 in Mekoy town, Ethiopia in 2019.

Method- An institutional based cross-sectional study design was conducted by using 359 study participants was selected using systematic random sampling technique. Frequency, bivariate, multiple logistic regression analysis was employed. P-value and 95% confidence interval (CI) for OR were used in judging the significance of the associations.

Result: Utilization of LAPMs was 54.9%, the most common is Implant (24%), and followed by Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD)(12.6%). Family size [AOR=6.066, 95%C (2.209, 16.654)], monthly income [AOR 8.552, 95%C (1.247, 58.673)] and attitude of partner/husband [AOR=2.108, 95%CI (0.027, 0.435)] had significant association of education of respondent on utilization of Utilization of LAPMs.

Conclusion: Utilization of LAPMs among contraceptive methods users in a town was 54.9. Family size, monthly and attitude of partner/husband had significant association of education of respondent on utilization of Utilization of LAPMs.
